Paul Butterworth is a British-born visual effects supervisor. He studied graphic design at Middlesex University, graduating with honours, and initially worked across photography, illustration, animation, and graphic design before moving into visual effects and compositing. In the early 1990s, Butterworth worked in design and compositing at Animal Logic; by 1998, he had taken on a VFX supervisory and art-director role for the first season of the television series Farscape. In 2000, he co-founded the studio Fuel VFX, where he supervised visual effects on many feature films and continued his work in matte painting, art direction, and commercial directing. Over the years, Butterworth's film credits have included several high-profile projects. Notably, he was Visual Effects Supervisor on Prometheus (2012), Thor (2011), The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), Iron Man 3 (2013), and multiple productions for the Marvel Studios universe, including Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017).
